How it all Started (the short version)

In 2007 my father passed away. Six months later I had my first recorded grand mal seizure. I was rushed to the emergency room because my body wouldn’t stop seizing. During the MRI the doctors discovered three brain tumors. March 2008, I had my first brain surgery cut from ear to ear. Only two of the three tumors were removed the third left on my optic nerve. After surgery everything was different. My senses came alive. I could feel the air, I could see the connections between people, and inanimate objects. I saw everything was atomic in some form. My state of awareness shifted. The MBA grad soon to start law school student was looking at the world differently, and it was weird! Colors were more vibrant, my taste buds changed, my hearing evolved, it was just out of this world.
I quickly returned to my roots, the young girl reading and connecting with the earth. The young girl who collected crystals and burned incense. I began studying again and soon obtained a certification in hatha yoga. I became a certified crystal bowl practitioner, and received partial training in light meditation. I started working with sounds and felt huge shifts in interactions with my surroundings.
There was a moment after the end to a marriage, law school, and a business venture no longer suited the highest good for my time that I needed someone, anyone, to lead me in a yoga class. I asked my friends and everyone was super open and willing for me to come to one of their classes. They were all donation based. I had a choice, $5 for getting to a yoga class which I would have to bring/find a yoga mat, dress in appropriate attire, drive to the studio, or I could take that $5 and walk to the corner store and buy a chocolate bar and some chips and guacamole. I chose the later. At this moment I realized the need that all people, in any circumstance, should be given the opportunity to attend a yoga class for free. That maybe us, as a society could lift each others vibration for a higher good by donating for an hour of relaxation. This yoga that is taught is probably the easiest and yet the most complicated poses that one will ever encounter.
I started Universal Sound and Blissed Yoga with that in mind. My intention is making this type of healing experience available to all communities. Those from diverse communities, underserved populations, and newcomers to the practice. Yoga is more than testing the limits of physical boundaries, it is expanding the image of one’s heart.
Studios nationwide have teamed up with my nonprofit to offer classes. Just look for the USABY logo, and you’ll know the class is open for all. I have received donations of product from sponsors so those who forget to bring their yoga mat have one available for use. To expand the availability of volunteers, USABY provides Frequency Yoga™ training, including the certification of new instructors through the yoga school TSOSAH. My goal is to inspire and encourage learners and teachers of healing sound and movement. I work to make this type of healing experience accessible to all.
